Elementary Certification Program for Teachers who hold a Temporary Bilingual (Type 29) Certificate M.A.
This is an elementary certification program for teachers who hold a Temporary Type 29 bilingual certificate. Individuals working as bilingual teachers who hold a degree from outside the United States or adults who have a bachelor’s degree from a non-education field are eligible. The certification can be completed in approximately two years. Courses will be offered year-round in the evening in an accelerated format. Additionally, participants can take one additional course to earn their Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education.
All coursework is offered during evenings or summer terms. The student teaching requirement for practicing Bilingual educators is met through their regular teaching assignment with supervision and class sessions with College of Education personnel.
All candidates must meet the requirements for full admission status listed in the college of education introduction.
Prerequisites
- Successful completion of the Illinois Basic Skills Test
- Initial interview with University representative
- Bachelor’s degree
- Enter with a minimum 2.75 grade point average for Bachelor’s level coursework and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA during the program
- Meet all general education requirements
- Eighteen hours in an endorsement area (See Program Director for list of acceptable areas of endorsement)
