English as a Second Language (ESL) Endorsement with M.Ed. Option

Candidates with a professional educator license with teacher endorsement who wish to add the English as a Second Language Endorsement or Bilingual Endorsement to their license must complete the following coursework. The ESL Endorsement is valid only at the grade levels of the teacher's current license endorsement. 

Candidates who seek a Bilingual Endorsement must take 51-527 Methods and Materials for Teaching Bilingual Education, as well as successfully completing the ISBE language assessment.  

Successful completion of the College of Education graduate writing assessment is required during the first quarter of enrollment. Two years of teaching experience is not required for enrollment or ESL Endorsement.
