English as a Second Language or ESL-Bilingual Endorsement Only

Candidates with a professional educator license seeking to add the English as a Second Language and/or Bilingual Endorsement to their license must complete the following coursework. The ESL Endorsement is valid only at the grade levels of the teacher's current license endorsement.   All coursework is aligned with the Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) standards.  This is a non-degree program; candidates may, however, apply the endorsement courses to a Masters in Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction as indicated in the previous section.

Candidates who seek a Bilingual Endorsement must take 51-527 Methods and Materials for Teaching Bilingual Education, as well as successfully completing the ISBE language assessment.

Two years of teaching experience is not required for enrollment or ESL/Bilingual Endorsement.
