Educational Leadership, Principal Preparation Endorsement / Master of Education (M.Ed.)

The Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership with Principal Endorsement is designed to assist current licensed teachers to move into principal positions that deal with school governance and management, transformative leadership, supervision for school improvement, school and public policy, and research. This program is aligned with national and state standards for building and district leadership. The program has a social justice emphasis.

Prerequisites
1. Professional Educator License.
2. Four years successful teaching experience or school support personnel experience.
3. Interview with the Principal Preparation Team.
4. Fulfillment of Survey of Exceptional Child requirement (105 ILCS 5/21-2a).

Transfer credit accepted: A maximum of 6 credit hours may be accepted for transfer from a regionally-accredited institution, earned within the last 5 years, with no grade lower than a B; transcript must be accompanied by a performance portfolio indicating that the courses requested for transfer have addressed the appropriate ISBE and NELP standards. 

Comprehensive Examination Required for M.Ed. Degree.

The comprehensive examination is administered by the Lewis University principal preparation program during the candidate’s final semester of coursework; the exam covers content and concepts addressing the standards that are integrated throughout the program of study.  

Additional State of Illinois Requirements for Endorsement on the PEL

• Illinois licensure examinations (2) for Principal endorsement

• Completion of Illinois Performance Evaluation – Teacher Evaluation Training (IPA AA #2001)

Director of Special Education Endorsement

Program: NOND-SPLD-3
 
Candidates who have an administrative endorsement on their Professional Educator License and coursework in special education may elect to complete additional coursework leading to Illinois State Board of Education approval for the Director of Special Education Endorsement via individual transcript evaluation.  Endorsement will work with Lewis University’s Licensure Officer to review all transcripts to determine what additional coursework is needed to fulfill ISBE requirements.  Courses for the Special Education Director may include but are not limited to the following:
