Secondary Certification in Social Science with History Designation

In conjunction with the College of Education, the features a fully approved history program which prepares candidates to teach in grades 6-12 in public and private schools in the State of Illinois. The program is approved by the State Teacher Certification Board in conjunction with the Illinois State Board of Education and includes all the requirements for a major in History as well as general social studies core courses and Illinois history. Teacher education candidates major in both History and Secondary Education and should consult with advisors in both the History Department and the College of Education. Candidates can have a maximum of two “C’s” in their content area classes.
