Contemporary Leadership / Minor

Minor Credit Hours: 15

A minor in Contemporary Leadership will provide students the opportunity for personal exploration of leadership styles/skills as well as academic preparation related to leadership theories and principles applied to today's complex workforce. Students will engage in academic and co-curricular activities to expand and hone their leadership skills through application of their leadership experiences to various real-world situations. The focus of the minor will be related to strong communication skills, team relations, conflict resolutions, personal impact and lifelong learning. Using principles of authentic leadership as the basis for learning, comparisons to different leadership approaches such as servant leadership, transformational leadership and positive leadership will be discussed. The main objective of this minor is to foster the individual student's contributions and personal impact as an authentic, ethical leader through an integration of academic study and co-curricular involvement.

Students will choose one elective course from across the University to apply to this minor. The course chosen will need to focus on leadership, as the intent is for students to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the broad need for leadership across disciplines, subjects and industries. There are many possible elective course options for students in each college, allowing students great flexibility in fulfilling this elective course requirement.
