Forensic Criminal Investigation

Objectives

Forensic Criminal Investigation is a specialty vocation in law enforcement. This program provides appropriate curriculum and education to prepare students for the complexities of forensic criminal investigation. The curriculum is based on an interdisciplinary approach, which includes germane courses from Criminal Justice and other programs. Unlike programs structured to train students to become forensic scientists, this degree program is designed to prepare students to work in the field of law enforcement and function as crime scene investigators who collect and secure evidence at crime scenes. This work is confined to the field and not assigned to the laboratory. For those students who are interested in studying forensic science to prepare for a career as a laboratory professional, Forensic Chemistry is the appropriate area of study.

The Forensic Criminal Investigation program is offered through the Department of Justice, Law and Public Safety Studies in collaboration with the departments of Chemistry, Mathematics/Computer Science, Physics, and the College of Business Accounting program.  A 4+1 Program option is available.
