The impact of health IT on consumers, populations and healthcare providers is emphasized.

HIIM-62000 Clinical Data Integrity

Clinical documentation is the foundation of every patient health record and drives the capture of high-quality, reliable, and statistically sound clinical data. This course includes the study of clinical documentation in the health record used to capture clinical data for administrative and statistical reporting. In addition, utilization of the health record, information governance, data analytics and the management of the health data are discussed.

HIIM-63000 Statistical Analysis and Research

Examination of research methods and design in the health sciences. Focus placed on interpreting and using evidence-based information and study design. Students will review data decision making processes and the use of project management tools and techniques.

HIIM-64000 Healthcare Data Analytics

Exploration of the role of analysts, and analytics, in healthcare organizations. Introduces the concepts of the data analytics lifecycle, including framing a problem, data extraction, creating, validating, interpreting, and presenting analysis. Current and emerging tools in data analysis will be addressed.

HIIM-66000 Strategic Leadership

Examination of nature, function, and techniques of administration and supervision in healthcare organizations. Emphasis will be placed on building relationships with key stakeholders, managing human resources, overseeing information governance, policymaking, and decision making from micro and macro perspectives.

HIIM-68000 HIM Research Project

Students will conduct a formal research project focused on a current issue around health information and informatics management from a national and global perspective under the direction of a faculty advisor.

HIIM-69000 HIM Directed Professional Practice Experience

This student-centered course provides the opportunity to apply and integrate knowledge acquired through coursework. In clarifying and broadening career goals, the professional practice experience assists students in discovering, developing, and refining necessary competencies and skills for their proposed career objectives. May be taken in lieu of HIIM 680 HIM Research Project or added to the program as additional course credit.
