The BSHCMT program prepares graduates for a career in healthcare management, which is the administration and organization of all mechanisms involved including managing people and health information. Students will become proficient in managing the healthcare environment to optimize use of personnel, resources and information systems and services; planning and implementing health information technologies, standards and policies; collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to provide safe and effective healthcare and to promote healthcare literacy. Throughout the program, faculty will assess students’ ability to exhibit positive professional and ethical values consistent with current healthcare management standards of practice; analyze the impact of social policy, finance, regulations and legislation on healthcare for individuals, groups, communities and populations across the lifespan; to collect, analyze, evaluate, and synthesize health data; and to utilize leadership strategies of mediation, negotiation, and enhanced communication skills to manage conflict resolution while acting as a coach, mentor, and a problem solver.
High-quality information and data required to manage healthcare facilities, people and patient care are often difficult to find, especially for those without appropriate training in detecting and using reliable medical data sources. Students majoring in healthcare management will task themselves with finding innovative ways to manage healthcare operations, consumer health literacy education, and how to analyze health information for integrity and reliability to best serve the healthcare needs of their patients. The BSHCMT program will prepare graduates interested in managing healthcare facilities, resources and personnel; connecting patients to their data throughout the healthcare continuum to provide the best possible health outcomes.
Outcome Characteristics
The Lewis University Healthcare Management student will be prepared to:
- Manage the healthcare environment to optimize use of personnel, resources and information systems and services;

Admission Requirements
Students applying for admission to the Healthcare Management program must meet the following admission criteria:
To be considered for the program, students must:
- Complete an online application for admission to the Program.
- Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0, including any transfer of college credits.
- Submit transcripts for all previous college coursework.
- Submit high school transcripts if no previous college credit has been earned.
