Mathematical Modeling / Minor

A minor in Mathematical Modeling will provide students with the tools for and experience of developing, analyzing, and simulating mathematical models as a transferable process that will prepare them to research and solve unknown problems in the future. The goal of mathematical modeling is to understand the process that led to observed data and build a model that simulates that process in order to make predictions about future behavior or in order to understand aspects of the process itself. By doing this, modelers can gain a deeper understanding of the process, conduct experiments (that would otherwise be unfeasible or even impossible to do), and predict future behavior. Students in this program will use mathematical tools to solve problems from a variety of disciplines, as modeling is an interdisciplinary activity in which two or more disciplines converge together to solve a problem.
